An environmental regulation for private pools

The French Federation of Pool Professionals has introduced a new Europe-wide environmental standard to encourage the development of more environmentally-friendly private pools. From now on, manufacturers must inform consumers by means of an energy performance rating ranging from A (very energy-efficient) to F (very energy-intensive). This standard, harmonized across the European Union, encourages manufacturers to design equipment with a low environmental impact. For consumers, it aims to facilitate the choice of more sustainable, energy-efficient equipment.

Energy performance for private pools

You have a project to build a swimming pool ? Your pool needs renovation ? Since January 2024, a pictogram has shown you scores from A to F to indicate the energy efficiency of equipment. As with major household appliances, you can choose your pool equipment on the basis of its energy performance. This information will help you assess their impact on the environment.

Where to find energy performance information?

With this new regulation, the energy performance of your future swimming pool must be included on all quotations. This includes quotations for pool construction or renovation projects.

Pool equipment manufacturers are obliged to assess the energy performance of their equipment in line with these regulations. Firstly, pool specialists must provide a quotation specifying the overall energy performance of the pool and its equipment. Secondly, an estimate of annual energy consumption must be clearly indicated.

Does this new environmental regulation apply to every pools?

Since January 2024, energy rating has been mandatory for all outdoor family pools. It does not apply to private indoor or above-ground pools, nor to spas for family use to date.

Recycling materials

This new standard requires professionals to make a real effort not only in terms of the energy performance of materials, but also in terms of their recycling. Today, almost 60% of swimming pool waste is recycled, 30% is disposed of or reclaimed, and 10% is reused. To be sure of being able to recycle your pool's equipment, you choose a company with a recycling label. This label certifies that the company can take charge of taking back your equipment, sorting it and reusing it.
